Ian G. Hall, President of Guyanese United, formally wrote to Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo on February 23, 2025, urging immediate intervention in the long-overdue allocation of a residential house lot for Mr. Dennis Atwell. The application, initially submitted on March 12, 2007, has been pending for nearly 18 years despite repeated confirmations of eligibility by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA).

In the letter, Hall highlights that Atwell was informed in 2010 that he qualified for a “Middle Income” house lot, a status that was reaffirmed in a January 2021 update. However, despite these assurances, he has yet to receive his allocation.
“This delay is unacceptable, particularly when many others have been granted house lots in the past five years,” Hall stated in the letter, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the housing allocation process. He has requested clarification on the reasons behind the prolonged delay and outlined the necessity of an immediate resolution.
Guyanese United, a non-governmental organization dedicated to preserving Guyanese heritage and fostering a positive national image, has taken a keen interest in ensuring that citizens receive fair treatment under the law. Hall expressed confidence that the Vice President’s office will prioritize the matter, allowing Atwell to move forward with securing a home.
The case raises broader concerns about the efficiency and fairness of the CH&PA’s allocation system, particularly for long-standing applicants. As Guyana experiences rapid development and increased housing demands, there is growing pressure on authorities to ensure timely and equitable distribution of land resources.
Vice President Jagdeo has yet to respond to the letter, but stakeholders will be watching closely to see if corrective action is taken.
