Happy 60th Independence Anniversary, Guyana

Today, Guyanese at home and across the diaspora celebrate a remarkable milestone, the 60th Anniversary of our nation’s Independence.

As we reflect on the journey from May 26, 1966, to today, we honor the vision, sacrifices, and determination of those who came before us. From our Indigenous ancestors to the descendants of Africans, Indians, Chinese, Portuguese, and Europeans who helped shape our nation, each generation has contributed to the rich tapestry that is Guyana.

Independence was not simply the transfer of political authority. It was a declaration that the future of our nation would be determined by our own efforts, our own aspirations, and our own commitment to one another. The freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today were earned through perseverance, resilience, and hard work.

As we celebrate six decades of nationhood, let us also remember that the responsibility for Guyana’s continued success rests with all of us. Strong communities, economic growth, good governance, respect for one another, and national unity are not the work of governments alone. They are built every day by citizens who choose to contribute, to serve, and to invest in a better future.

The challenges of tomorrow will require the same courage, integrity, and determination that guided those who came before us. Let us honor their legacy by striving for excellence, supporting one another, and working together to build a nation worthy of future generations.

On behalf of Guyanese United, we extend our warmest wishes to all Guyanese around the world.

Happy 60th Anniversary of Independence.

One People. One Nation. One Destiny.
